Holophone H4 SuperMINI Reviews

Summary of review published by DV Magazine — February, 2008 (page 21)

Producing 5.1 soundtracks can be a challenge to most people, with the need to manage several mikes, a mixer and multitrack recorder on location. Due to this complexity, the cameraman is usually different from the audioman. However, because of the H4 SuperMINI by Holophone, it’s now possible for just one person to capture surround-sound while shooting video. It’s a very portable package designed to be mounted on most of the top video cameras, which includes a pre-amp and Dolby Pro Logic II encoder that weighs roughly a pound. The reviewer tested it on nature sounds and the recording had excellent quality. It’s definitely a valuable tool for productions on a tight budget.
Pros:
-Small
-Well-built
-Weighs a pound
-Can be used with external mikes
Cons:
-Affects camera’s balance
-Obstructs view
