Utilizing Intel's newest Xeon processor and chipset, the new HP xw6600 will definite quench your speed thirst. The xw6600 carries the Intel 5400 chipset, optimized for the latest Xeon processors with a 1600MHz front-side bus. The system comes configured with a 160GB boot drive and a 500GB storage drive, a 256MB NVIDIA Quadro FX370 graphics card, and a Broadcom NetXtreme gigabit LAN card. The reviewer noted that the xw6600 comes with Adobe Creative Suite CS3 preinstalled. It also includes a set of "Cool Tools." Part of the Cool Tools is the Performance Tuning Framework, which gives you a complete listing of configuration information, information on the installed graphic drivers, tuning options for applications, and resource usage. There is also HP's SoftPaq Download Manager, which allows for the quick downloading of any drivers that are available. The reviewer was able to scrub through a test video in ts native HDV format very smoothly and in real time. Benchmark tests showed that the boot drive has an average transfer rate of 61.1MB/sec, while the storage drive can do 65.3MB/sec. All this raw power comes at a price - the most basic version fetching as much as $1,389. Nonetheless, if you are after speed and have the money to spend, the HP xw6600 will certainly deliver.
