HP hits the right combination of aesthetics and power with the release of the HP Pavilion dv7. The onyx lid comes with a grid pattern that goes all the way to the keyboard deck. Lifting the lid will reveal a futuristic, shiny silver deck, keyboard, as well as a chrome speaker strip. While the reviewer found the keyboard to be slippery, typing is still comfortable. The 17-inch 1680 x 1050 display had good viewing angles and produced excellent color and sharpness. However, the reviewer noted that the brightness could be a bit higher. The chrome speaker, working together with a subwoofer, worked excellently. It comes with a TV tuner, though reception is wanting. It comes with a Blu-ray drive, along with the requisite ports you’d normally look for in a desktop replacement. When booted for the first time, the system took 2 minutes to start up, mainly because of the many bloatware that comes pre-installed. Benchmark tests, on the other hand, showed that the Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 CPU is a great performer, hitting above average scores. For those who are looking for performance as well as multimedia muscle, the HP Pavilion dv7 is an excellent choice.
