HP Mini 2140 Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — December, 2008

For the road warriors, HP has released the new Mini 2140 Notebook PC. It features a brushed silver, all-aluminum lid and a solid magnesium alloy chassis that makes it even more durable. It measures 10.3 x 6.5 x 1.1 inches and weighs 3.0 pounds with a six-cell battery. While it is heavier than other 10-inch netbooks, it still feels non-existent when placed in a shoulder bag. The 92 percent full-size keyboard is still treated with something that makes it more resistant to wear-and-tear. To make way for the keyboard, the touchpad and the buttons had to be minimized, just like the HP 2133 Mini-Note. HP also retained the awkward vertical mouse buttons. Instead of the usual 3 USB ports, HP decided to ditch one in lieu of an ExpressCard/54 slot. From an 8.9-inch, the 2140 sports a 10-inch display with a true 16:9 aspect ratio. The flush glass screen is bright and scratch-resistant. Viewing angles are generous and videos looked clear and crisp. Replacing the VIA C7-M processor is Intel’s Atom processor. Windows XP performance was snappy and programs opened quickly. The integrated graphics chip scored about 70 points below the category average. The six-cell battery managed to power the 2140 for an impressive 7 hours and 19 minutes. If durability and endurance is top priority, the HP Mini 2140 surely delivers.
Pros:
-very portable
-7-hours runtime on 6-cell battery
-comfortable keyboard
-durable

Cons:
-poorly placed mouse buttons
-gets warm underneath
