HP MediaSmart Server EX470 Reviews

Summary of review published by PC Magazine — March, 2008

HP MediaSmart Server is primarily designed as a network-attached storage for your residence. It has a built-in iTunes server that creates a shared song library in a network. The exterior looks good. It’s a blue-black case with blue LEDs to indicate which drive bays are in use. The four drive bays accept drives of any capacity but the capacities must match. External drives, which can connect via USB and eSATA ports, can vary in storage capacity. One limitation the MediaSmart Server has is that it attaches to the network via a wired Ethernet port. To use it, you must install the Microsoft Windows Home Server software in at least one of the computers in the network. The author found out after a series of tests that the MediaSmart works great and it sets the bar up for home NAS servers.
Pros:
-Generous drive expandability
-Quick performance on gigabit network
-Compatible media-oriented product line coming soon
Cons:
-Wireless Ethernet not available
-No printer server
-Drives not swappable
