Gateway P-7811FX Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — August, 2008

Gateway took the gaming notebook market by storm with the P-6831FX. Now, the P-7811FX continues to uphold the reputation earned by its predecessor. It bears the same glossy black finish with a copper and silver trim design, and weighs 9.2 pounds, with a measurement of 15.8 x 11.8 x 1.7 inches. It has a spacious, comfortable keyboard and a responsive and conveniently positioned touchpad. The 17-inch, high-resolution (1920 x 1200) widescreen display produced crisp images. However, the reviewer noted that the glossy coating tends to be a bit too reflective. It has a variety of ports, including an eSATA port. Benchmark scores are above average, thanks to the 4GB dual-channel memory and the 2.26-GHz Core 2 Duo processor. The Nvidia’s GeForce 9800 GTS 512MB graphics controller provides the P-7811FX 3D muscle. Game tests showed that the P-7811FX is capable of running even the most demanding games, albeit not at maximum settings. Battery life is better than the average for its class, providing power for 2 hours and 5 minutes on a DVD rundown test. A reasonable price tag, powerful performance, and great graphics all make the P-7811FX a solid choice for a gaming notebook.
Pros:
-Excellent 3D performance for its price
-HD display
-eSATA and HDMI ports
Cons:
-Mediocre speakers
-No Blu-ray
