Gateway DX442XP Reviews

Summary of review published by PC Magazine — August, 2008

In this day and age when Vista is the default OS on newer systems, Gateway decided to jump back to the past and install Windows XP Pro instead in the new DX442XP. The system looks just like the rest of Gateway’s DX- and GT-series desktop PCs. It has an ordinary front panel. A sliding door hides a pair of front USB ports, a headphone jack, and the slot for the Gateway multimedia removable hard drive. Expansion cards are easy to add, thanks to the mostly tool-less chassis. The reviewer noted that the DX442XP excels at multimedia tasks. Testing it using Photoshop CS3 and Windows Media Encoder, the reviewer stated that it's a good machine for students, and others who are dabbling in digital photography or video production. It achieved a great score of 145 points in SYSmark 2007 Preview Overall. The only disappointing score of the DX442XP is a 3DMark06 score of 306, due to the integrated GMA 3000 graphics set. While there are other cheaper systems in the market, those who are more into multimedia task will appreciate the quad-core multimedia performance offered by the Gateway DX442XP.
Pros:
-blazing quad-core performance
-easy to expand
-comes with 3GB of memory

Cons:
-no DX10 3D capability
-comes with bloatware
