Garmin Nuvi 5000 Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — April, 2008

Just when the standard screen size for GPS has settled to 4.3 inches, out comes the Garmin nüvi 5000 that features 5.2 inches of real estate for your GPS needs. Aside for the screen, Garmin tried to keep everything else small. It is only 0.8 inches thick and weighs 9.3 ounces with an elegant design you’d be proud of. The screen space isn’t wasted as Garmin kept the menus and maps light. What they did enlarge are the text and the graphics for easier reading and navigating. The nüvi 5000 is very intuitive, as it only offers 2 large options for navigating. Performance is great, as the Garmin makes navigating a pleasure. Rerouting due to a missed turn took only seconds. It comes with an average of 6 million POI, though the reviewer stated that it was out of date. The nüvi 5000 has a few extras such as a photo viewer, a basic music player and an FM transmitter. However, its hefty price of $799 makes it a necessity only for those who really needs a large display. Otherwise, units with larger POIs and a smaller display is available for half of the price of the nüvi 5000.
Pros:
-Largest display currently available
-Easy-to-read menus
-Music and photo viewer available
-Street name pronunciation
Cons:
-No Bluetooth
-FM Transmitter doesn’t work well
