Garmin Mobile PC Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — July, 2008

For those who want to have GPS capability but don’t want to shell out cash for a new device, the Garmin Mobile PC might just do the trick. It’s hailed by the reviewer as the best notebook-based GPS product they have ever tested. Installing the software is easy and took only a few minutes. Initially, the reviewer noted that the software needed 12 minutes to get the GPS position. However, it took less than a minute on subsequent use. The Garmin Mobile PC provided colorful and easy to read maps, and rerouting takes just 4 seconds, although there is no option for live traffic. The interface is very simple, with only two choices: Where To? and View Map. The on-screen options are accessible via the Function keys, removing the need to fumble with the keyboard or a mouse. While the software was easy to use, the hardware was a different story. The reviewer stated that the device’s suction cups weren’t sticking at all and that the 3-foot, 2-inch USB cable is far too short. If you are more at ease using your laptop as your GPS device, the Garmin Mobile PC is an excellent, easy-to-use software solution.
Pros:
-Easy to use
-Simple interface
-Fast searching and rerouting
-Street name pronunciation

Cons:
-USB cord too short
-Suction cups doesn’t always adhere
-No option for live traffic
