Fujifilm FinePix Z1 Reviews

Summary of review published by Digital Camera Magazine — April, 2006 (page 58)

The reviewer found that the Z1 was in a different design style compared to other compact cameras in a lineup. The camera housing seemed to be made of an industrial metal U-bracket, giving the camera a solid, durable feel. However, this made the camera seem a bit heavy at 5.1 ounces. The Z1 takes 5.1 megapixel images with a Fuji Super CCD HR imager, capturing excellent images. Another great feature of the camera is that the 3x optical zoom lens is internal, so it doesn’t extend from the camera body when you toggle it. The 2.5 inch LCD screen has an acrylic shield that protects it from scratches. Fuji actually boasts that it is 35x more resistant to scratching than its predecessors. Although the camera only has a few controls, they don’t seem to be intuitively arranged. The round switch for the record and movies mode can easily be confused as the shutter control. Another complaint that the reviewer had was that the memory card used by the camera is the xD-Picture card, which is uncommon and pricier.
Pros:
-Well-made, great design
-One of the smallest compact cameras
-The imager captures high-quality photos
Cons:
-Lens area is easily covered by your fingers if you’re not too careful
-Controls are less than intuitive
-Lacks some impressive features
