The FragBox line is well known as a gaming system with the brains and the brawn and the FragBox 8500 is no exception. The latest model in the line resembles its predecessors, but it brings the price down into the "more affordable" gaming range. It still has the same black metal case, clear side windows, a bottom-lit, carved front panel and a FragBox skull logo on it. To bring down the costs, the 8500 comes with a Core 2 Duo E8500 processor instead of a Quad Core one. On the other hand, it features an overclocked (670-MHz, up from a stock 650-MHz) 512MB EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS. Firing up Crysis, the FragBox attained an excellent 71 fps at 1,280-by-1,024 resolution. Likewise, the FragBox gets an excellent score of 66 fps on World in Conflict at 1,280-by-1,024 resolution. It still hasn’t broken the high 1,920-by-1,200 resolution, stuttering in at 5 fps for Crysis and 20 fps for World in Conflict. There are some caveats, though mostly are minor ones such as no SLI or CrossFire support. Nevertheless, if you are in the market for a serious gaming machine that can run Crysis fluidly and won’t cause you an arm and a leg, the Falcon Northwest FragBox 8500 is a good contender.
