Epson Perfection Photo 4990 Reviews

Summary of review published by Digital Camera Magazine — October, 2005 (page 66)

Epson’s newest model scanner tries to bridge the gap between traditional document scanners and dedicated film scanners. It connects via either USB or Firewire and is simple to set up. The Perfection Photo 4990 also includes a variety of software applications including Adobe Photoshop and LaserSoft Imaging. The machine offers three levels of scanning from completely automatic to completely manual exposure control. Both film and photo scans are clean, professional, and fast, although certain software may slow the process down. One particular culprit, Digital Ice, does such a nice job cleaning images as it scans that the slower processing time is well worth what it would have cost to photo shop the images afterward.
Pros:
-easy setup
-expansive software bundle
-excellent photo quality
-variety of control levels.
Cons:
-film holders flimsy
-slow scans with some software
-older version of Adobe Photoshop
