Dell comes out on the top again with its latest offering, the Dell XPS Studio 16. It features the eye-catching Obsidian Black lid and the anodized aluminum strip that stretches the width of the top. The magnesium alloy chassis measured 15.2 x 10.0 x 1.0 inches. The reviewer noted that Dell took advantage of the notebook’s large size and included more than just the basic ports, such as HDMI and DisplayPort connections, an ExpressCard/54 slot, FireWire 400 and a slot-loading Blu-ray drive. The backlit keyboard was pleasurable to type on, though it was not very responsive. A glossy strip above the keyboard houses the XPS 16’s responsive multimedia touch controls. The 16-inch high-gloss, 16:9, edge-to-edge glass RGB-LED screen stands out from the crowd by delivering 100 percent of the color gamut. Contrast was excellent, and images were brilliant and colorful. The system’s Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of RAM got a score that’s 700 points above the average. Graphics performance is no slouch either, getting scores that are double the mainstream average. Battery life is quite short, lasting only 2 hours and 25 minutes with the six-cell battery. The 802.11a/g/n radio pushed data at a rate of 19.2 and 16.7 Mbps at 15 and 50 feet respectively. It has an option for mobile broadband, and the Studio 16 is GPS and WiMAX ready. For a multimedia notebook that offers excellent performance, there's the Dell XPS Studio 16.
