The Latitude XT is Dell’s first stab into the world of tablets, and what an entrance it has been. It’s the first convertible to feature the capacitive touchscreen technology for its display. Now, you can operate the system via the display even better with just your fingers. Being slim and light at 3.8 pounds does not alter the amount of features it has. It features a full keyboard, a trackpoint, a touchpad, a fingerprint reader as well as an assortment of ports and card slots, though missing is a webcam. The reviewer found the 12.1-inch display to be impressive, being lighter, thinner, and brighter than other tablets. Benchmark scores were below average, though the reviewer stated that it had no trouble operating Vista’s Aero interface. Throughput was also fast at 1.6 Mbps at 50 feet and with the 802.11n connection, web surfing is a breeze. The biggest drawback with the XT is its battery life, lasting only 2 hours 41 minutes. The 9-cell slice battery solved it, albeit an additional $224 and extra weight. If you’re willing to pay $3000+ for a convertible, the Dell’s capacitive touch as well as the 3-year warranty puts it ahead of the pack.
