Dell decided to ride the netbook bandwagon and released the new Dell Inspiron Mini 9. The Mini 9 measures 6.8 by 9.2 by 1 inches and weighs 2.3 pounds. It has a shiny black exterior. Underneath the lid is the black keyboard against the silver palm rests. It has an 8.9-inch display, though the reviewer noted that the screen’s frame can easily hold a 10-inch screen. The keyboard is only 88 percent, unlike the MSI Wind’s and the HP Mini-Note’s 92 percent. It comes with the requisite ports you’d normally look for in a netbook. Instead of a spinning drive, it has an 8GB SSD drive that pales in comparison with the Wind's and HP Mini-Note's 80GB capacities. The Atom processor and the 1GB of memory have enough muscle to perform general-purpose tasks. Using the Windows Media Encoder test, the Mini 9 was able to get a 4-minute 58-second score. The four-cell battery should get you close to the 3-hour range. Overall, despite some good points, the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 still falls behind the current leader of the netbook pack, the MSI Wind.
