DVGear DV Dream Reviews

Summary of review published by VideoMaker — January, 2008

Because of the influx of HD videos, HD editing is fast becoming a necessity. And with that necessity is the need to upgrade your hardware as well. Sure, you can do the job of upgrading your system. Or you can go with a turnkey editing system like DVGear’s DV Dream. The DV Dream features an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz processor, 4MB of L2 cache, 2GB of 800MHz RAM and a Matrox RT.X2 capture card. The Dream comes out of the box ready to play, and according to the reviewer, they have transferred their project and files and started editing without a single hiccup. Pre-installed software includes Windows XP Pro and the Premiere Pro CS3 bundle that comes with Encore, OnLocation, Bridge and Device Central. It is evident that the installation of software has been done carefully to further optimize video editing performance. With only 20 processes running in the background, precious RAM is not wasted. To test the stability and performance, the reviewer kept tossing various small projects at the DV Dream and was impressed. However, the reviewer noted that if you are looking for more speed and even more real-time options, a faster CPU is needed.
Pros:
-Great system design, engineering and optimization

Cons:
-CPU quite limited, lack of audio connections
