The Cyberpower Gamer Ultra SLI Basic is your entry-level PC gaming rig. It comes in a budget gaming chassis that features flashy accents on the LED-lit fans and analog gauges on the front panel door. The inside of the chassis has enough room should you decide to upgrade the system. It features a midrange AMD Athlon X2 6000+ dual-core processor, 2GB of DDR2-800 memory, and a pair of 512MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GT graphics cards. Testing the Cyberpower’s performance muscle, the reviewer noted that it finished the Windows Media Encoder test in 1 minute 7 seconds. The Photoshop test was completed in 46 seconds. When it comes to gaming, the Cyberpower is a mixed bag. DX9 games, such as Company of Heroes, were very much playable and provided smooth frame rates. DX10 games, on the other hand, were able to run but the extremely slow frame rates made it impossible to play them. The reviewer stated that if you want to play the newest games, you’d have to spend some cash for the upgrades. Overall, if you want to try gaming without burning a hole in your pocket, the Cyberpower Gamer Ultra SLI Basic is up to the task.
