CyberLink Power Director 7 Ultra Reviews

Summary of review published by PC Magazine — September, 2008

Despite faulty starts with its video editing line, CyberLink finally delivers an excellent software that’s not only flexible, but powerful as well. The CyberLink PowerDirector 7 Ultra features an adjustable interface to customize the size of the preview window and the timeline. The reviewer, on the other hand, noted that the Panasonic AG-HSC1UP camcorder wasn’t recognized. Despite this minor setback, the CyberLink still offers a great interface. It can handle both 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios, but you have to set them before starting the project. Just like most editors, content can be dragged and dropped from the bin to the work area. The preview window is easily adjustable, though you cannot send preview video out the 1394 port. It offers a wide range of special effects and most of the existing cleaning filters were significantly changed, providing users with much more flexibility. To test the software in terms of performance, the reviewer previewed an AVCHD clip on a dual-processor, quad-core HP xw6600. Previewing consumed 28 to 32 percent of the CPU cycles. Producing a 10-minute 30-second test file as an MPEG-2 took 3 minutes 25 seconds. With the software’s unique range of functionality and ease of use, the CyberLink PowerDirector 7 Ultra is a solid choice for a video-editing program.
Pros:
-sharing over the internet of different materials
-good capture and trimming tools
-good performance
-utilizes multicore CPU
Cons:
-Panasonic AG-HSC1UP AVCHD camcorder not recognized
