The Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 is hailed as a mature consumer-level video-editing program that offers good editing capabilities and output options. When you start the program, the Launcher splash screen presents three choices: VideoStudio Editor, Movie Wizard, and DV-to-DVD Wizard. Seven tabs arrayed across the top of the interface shows the general flow of the process and is an intuitive approach that walks you through your project. The reviewer stated that the VideoStudio's Capture capabilities are generally at the top of the class for consumer-level products. It can scan a DV tape for scene changes at roughly 8X speed. However, it had some problems dealing with AVCHD clips. Preview function is quite good, and offers two modes: Instant and Full preview. Using a simple picture-in-picture project and a Dual-Processor, Quad-Core, 2.83-GHz, HP xw6600 workstation, the reviewer noted that VideoStudio still consumed only about 14 percent of the CPU horsepower with AVCHD footage. It adds a new feature to its special-effects tools, the Painting Creator, while maintaining the usual effects you’d look for in a video editing suite. The included Movie Wizard has some good templates for those quick slideshow creations. All in all, the Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 has indeed evolved into a usable and useful video editing suite.
Pros:
-good capture and trimming features
-good range of output options
-new drawing tools
-good slideshow templates
Cons:
-confusing project parameters
-mediocre native-AVCHD editing performance
-poor noise reduction
