ContentWatch Net Nanny 5.6 Reviews

Summary of review published by PC Magazine — May, 2008

Net Nanny was the first ever consumer Internet filter. With its merger with ContentProtect, version 5.6 is more like the latter, but bits of Net Nanny are still there. After you install it, the program goes to work right away. It blocks undesirable web sites and records all IM and web activities. It blocks “anonymizer” or proxy sites so that your kids can’t access illegal web sites. It also lets you schedule when and how long a child will spend online. In addition, there’s an option to control internet gaming. Even when you’re not at home, Net Nanny will send you an e-mail notice every time it blocks a child’s access to a web site, internet or program. You can even access admin controls by logging in Net Nanny’s web site. For the reviewer, the Net Nanny is an excellent choice for monitoring and controlling what your kids do while on the Internet.
Pros:
-Browser independent filtering system
-Children can request overrides
-Internet use can be scheduled weekly
-E-mail notification and remote management
-Flexible profiles
Cons:
-No override requests for time limits
-Outdated Internet gaming control
-Remote control doesn’t reflect immediately
