Cerulean Studios Trillian 3.1 Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — September, 2008

Trillian was made for Windows users who want to have a single application for their different instant messaging networks. It comes in two varieties: Basic, which comes for free, and Pro, which costs $25. It comes in a very basic blue-and-white interface that groups your contacts based on the instant messaging services. Unread mail for each account is also displayed above the contact lists. Both the Basic and the Pro carry features you’d normally look for in an IM application such as customizable skins and group conferences. Both also have the Instant Lookup tool that links certain words to Wikipedia for quick referencing. Buying the Pro version will get you several features such as compatibility with Apple’s iChat, extra eye candy, Emotiblips and plug-in support for various tasks. However, the reviewer noted that version 3.1 of Trillian has no webcam feature, though it retains video chatting features of some of the supported IM services. Also, the file transfer feature seems to be disabled in the free version. Despite the many extras you can get with the Pro version, the disabled web cam and file transfer features make it hard for the reviewer to recommend the Trillian 3.1.
Pros:
-instant look up feature
-e-mail notifications
Cons:
-no audio/video chat support
-no file transfer in Basic version
-not for Mac users
