Canon Powershot SD1100 IS Digital Elph Reviews

Summary of review published by PC Magazine — May, 2008

The successor to the very popular SD1000, Canon’s PowerShot SD1100 is an 8MP point-and-shooter equipped with a built-in image stabilizer. Thanks to its motion detection technology, it can sense movements in a frame and automatically adjust the ISO and exposure levels to compensate for them. If you’re bored with the usual silver finish, take heart because the SD1100 comes in five different color schemes for you to choose from: Rhythm & Blue, Swing Silver, Pink Melody, Bohemian Brown, and Golden Tone. The reviewer liked the camera, except for one usability complaint: he finds the function button too flat and a little difficult to distinguish from the wheel around it. Although the SD1100 is on the more expensive end of this segment, the reviewer thinks that its combination of compact design and great image quality is worth the price.
Pros:
-Less noise at high ISO settings
-Image stabilizer
-Optical viewfinder
-Antireflective display
Cons:
-Function button is hard
-Wide angle lens is limited

Though it may not be the sleekest, nor is it an excellent performer, the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH combines a bit of both to emerge as a solid choice for an all-around point-and-shoot. The size is just right for it to count as “cute” while providing ample grip for easier holding while taking a picture. Thanks to its Digic III processor, the camera is on and ready to shoot in under a second. In between shots are also fast with barely any shutter lag. The 8-megapixel camera allowed for crisp images as well as minimal noise on low light condition. Overall, the reviewer noted that colors were slightly dull and flat. Movie captured with the PowerShot SD1100 had decent video as well as audio. Its Digital ELPH’s Face Detection technology allows the camera to focus on a subject’s face for a decent portrait. However, the camera can barely keep up when used on fast moving objects. Even with a faster shutter speed and a higher ISO, the camera failed to halt much of the movements. Despite its flaws, its attractive design and equally attractive price makes the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH a good choice.
Pros:
-Stylish
-Fast start-up and in-between shots
-Good stabilization

Cons:
-Dull colors
-Poor quality with fast action shots
