Canon’s CanoScan 8800F flatbed scanner is a pumped version of its previous iteration, the CanoScan 8600F. Both offer the same 4,800-pixel-per-inch (ppi) optical resolution, the same scan speed and the ability to scan films - albeit with limitations. Setting up the 8800F is a cinch. You just install the software, plug the power cord and the USB cable, and you’re done. Instead of the usual single bundled editor, the 8800F comes with two: ArcSoft PhotoStudio 5.5 and Photoshop Elements. The scanner has buttons on its front that you can use to control the scanner. It still offers the Twain driver that has two modes: Simple and Advanced. The reviewer noted two features of the Twain driver: the backlight correction and the color adjustment without the RGB manual adjustment. Scan quality for photographic prints was excellent. On the other hand, the 4,800 ppi proved to be lacking when it comes to film scanning. The LED light has the advantage of not having the need to warm up, providing consistent scan speed. It scanned a 4-by-6 at 300 ppi within 8 to 12 seconds. For slides, it took 20 seconds to prescan, and 1 minute 11 seconds to scan one slide at 2,400 ppi. If you are in the market for a print and film scanner and the prints are more prioritized, give the Canon CanoScan 8800F a good look.
Pros:
-high-quality scans
-has backlight correction feature
-uses LED light source
Cons:
-scans only 4 slides at a time
