The original for-kids Intel Classmate PC just got an upgrade with the new CTL 2go Convertible Classmate PC. It measures 9.5 x 7.5 x 1.5 inches and weighs 3 pounds. Compared to the original, it has a toned down design aesthetic. The keyboard, while spill-resistant, is too small for adult hands. However, the touchpad and mouse button are spacious and comfortable. The 8.9-inch, 1024 x 600-pixel resolution matte screen is a bit dull, though horizontal and vertical viewing angles are solid. The screen can be turned 180 degrees and clipped down securely to the keyboard. Instead of the usual Windows XP interface, users get an attractive, full-screen, easy to navigate user interface called Blue Dolphin Quick Launcher that organizes Windows utilities and the various preloaded applications. The resistive touchscreen supports both stylus and finger inputs, and the reviewer noted that using it was hiccup-free. It has a built-in accelerometer that automatically adjusts orientation. The Atom processor and 1GB of RAM was enough to perform day-to-day tasks well. The 2go Convertible lasted for 4 hours and 55 minutes on battery - 1 hour longer than the original. As an educational tool, the tablet implementation and durability make the CTL 2go Convertible Classmate PC a sound choice.
Pros:
-good tablet experience
-attractive touch interface
-integrated accelerometer
-durable
-long battery life
Cons:
-keyboard size not for adults
-underside gets warm
