Axis Dolly Reviews

Summary of review published by DV Magazine — February, 2008 (page 14)

The reviewer was a former cinematographer, well acquainted with dollies. He favored them over tripods as they are much easier and faster to work with. However, small dollies needed the operator to walk along with them, making it difficult for the operator to compose the frame. The whole gamut of movements required to successfully capture a shot is a challenge to even the most seasoned professionals. The Axis Dolly tries to make things a bit easier by allowing a great amount of flexibility in a robust, well-constructed, small system. It has a triangular-shaped platform with three sets of wheels, one at each tip of the triangle. Each of those wheels is adjustable within single-degree increments, and they can be set in certain configurations to make the dolly travel in a straight line or in a curve, giving you freedom from dolly tracks. While the Axis Dolly may look odd at first glance, spending a little time with it is all you really need to make you fall in love.
Pros:
-Excellent features
-Very reasonable price
Cons:
-Hard to transport and store
-Lack of brakes
