Archos 605 owners can now turn their portable media players into a navigation tool with the Archos GPS In-Car Holder. Both a hardware and software solution, the Archos GPS In-Car Holder provides GPS reception, the navigation map, and a mount to keep the unit at eye level. To set it up, data must be loaded into the device through an included DVD. Once loaded, a GPS icon will be visible on the Archos desktop. The overall menu structure is easy to follow and understand. The reviewer stated that using the Archos GPS is a pleasant and straightforward experience. Maps are boldly colored so that users can quickly see their route. It has good turn indicators and street labeling. However, it doesn’t pronounce street names. The 6-million POI database can be difficult to access due to the keyboard that dominates the on-screen layout. Running a search was often slow and rerouting took a slow 10 seconds. If you already have an Archos 605 and would want to have a GPS device, the Archos GPS In-Car Holder might just do the job for you.
Pros:
-works with Archos 605 devices
-cheap
-good navigation
Cons:
-doesn’t pronounce street names
-slow rerouting time
-slow POI search
-unlabeled buttons
