One distinct advantage of a DSLR camera is the ability to shoot in high-information RAW format. However, not all photo editing suites available lets you take advantage of that format. If you do have $100 to spare, then you might want to check out ArcSoft’s PhotoStudio Darkroom. With a small footprint of 50MB, the Darkroom isn’t too picky on what machine you’d install it in. It also recognizes every major manufacturer’s RAW formats. It has an intuitive interface - a simple side menu of expandable control panels that offer different editing features. While it may be intimidating for a novice, the reviewer stated that the undoing an effect is very easy due to the prominent Undo button. Each tool uses a slider and a very useful side-by-side comparison toggle allows for instant comparison. However, the tool suite is quite limited and the reviewer stated that more of Photoshop Elements tools would have gone perfectly with the Darkroom. Nonetheless, if you are into RAW footages, the software focus of the ArcSoft’s PhotoStudio Darkroom can make your DSLR images look a lot better.
