Apple combined the best features of its predecessors in one package, and got the iPod nano 4G. It resembles the second-generation model with the aluminum casing all the way around. It’s available in 9 different colors regardless of the capacity, and has a 2-inch display which is portrait oriented instead of landscape mode like the third generation. The click wheel on the 4G is positioned higher compared to the 3G for better ergonomics. Videos played on the 4G looked sharp and bright with perfectly synced audio. The reviewer, on the other hand, noted that the 2-inch screen is too small for 16:9 content. Photos look excellent, with good color and sharpness but it still lacks the option to pan or zoom. Audio is very good, though it doesn’t have a custom equalizer. The accelerometer isn’t just for reorienting your screen. In music mode, turning the player sideways shows the Cover Flow. Shaking the unit puts it into Shuffle All mode and shaking again will skip the current track. The reviewer, however, did not like that battery life is stuck at 24 hours for audio and 4 hours for video. Nonetheless, the iPod nano 4G is still the best choice for a flash-based portable media player.
