Apple Color Reviews

Summary of review published by VideoMaker — October, 2007

Apple's Color is a program bundled with the popular Final Cut Studio 2 video editing software. The author confesses upfront that he’s not a color timing expert, so this review was done from the POV of an enthusiast. Apple Color’s interface differs from the rest of Final Cut applications. This may alienate new users, but a bit of practice makes it apparent that despite the difference, it fits perfectly in this suite. One of the best things about Apple Color is the amount of creative control it gives to the colorist. It offers a variety of features for each skill level: new colorists can grow with it, while veterans can enjoy its flexibility - so much so that one must guard against being too engrossed in experimenting, which can lead to valuable time being wasted. However, if time is only secondary to production quality, then this investment in training may be well worth it. Study the color theories to enable you to use this tool in the best way possible and avoid disappointing results. Apple Color may not appeal to everyone. For the advanced user, this tool may be heaven-sent. For the casual editor, the controls may be an overkill.
Pros:
-Auto Adjust
-3D color space view
-8 levels of secondary color
Cons:
-None
