The Apple TV is Apple's first set-top box, designed to play your iTunes movies and music through your TV and home entertainment system. Impressive or disappointing? The reviewer thinks it's both. In the tradition of Apple products, it has a very nice, clean interface. If you can get it to work, the Apple TV can connect up to five PCs or Macs running iTunes. YouTube access is true as advertised, but it doesn’t support Flash, and more than 90% of YouTube videos are in that format. Apple TV is also useless unless you have HDTV, because it only supports component video or HDMI inputs. Networking setup can also be a pain even for experienced users, as it can be quite tedious to configure manually. When you encounter a problem, there's no mode, diagnostics, or system to help you figure out why. Apple’s tech support has only one solution for all types of glitches: reinstall the Apple TV, clear the drive, resync everything, and start over. So does the reviewer recommend this product? Only to Apple fanatics, and those who have the need for the latest gadgets, no matter the cost and effort. For the more practical folk, better look elsewhere.
