Altec Lansing T612 Reviews

Summary of review published by PC Magazine — May, 2008

Altec Lansing T612 is the first fully compatible speaker docking for the iPhone. You need not put your iPhone into airplane mode to use it. That means, you can dial and receive calls while it is docked but you still have to pick the phone up to talk. Audio output is good at low to mid volume ranges but when the music volume goes up, you can discern some bass distortions. The writer thinks that it’s the best speaker solution for your iPhone and even your iPod for occasions when you need to listen to music in low volumes. You won’t be using it for your next party though.
Pros:
-iPhone compatible
-Bass and treble controls
-Comes with a functional remote
-Balanced audio output
Cons:
-Distorted bass in mid to high volumes
-No TV-out
-Doesn’t have any speaker phone capabilities
-Remote doesn’t have any menu navigation

Because of GSM interference, speakers are a no-no for iPhones as they always have that peculiar buzzing sound whenever the WiFi and cellular features of your phone are turned on. That is why Altec Lansing released the very first “works with iPhone” speaker model, the modernly designed T612. By installing internal shields against GSM interference, you can now listen to music on the iPhone using the T612 without turning the phone off. The speakers work best at moderate volume and noticeably break down when nearing the maximum output. Whenever there’s an incoming call, the audio automatically stops to allow you to take the call. The reviewer stated that the lack of speakerphone capability for a device marketed for the iPhone is unforgivable because it seriously limits the usefulness of the device. Also, the unit cannot be carried on the road as there are no options for battery use If these aren’t issues for you, then go and get yourself a T612 for your iPhone.
Pros:
-No more buzzing
-Auto music shut-off when there’s incoming call
-Modern design
Cons:
-No speakerphone capability
-Cannot be powered via battery
