Alienware Area 51 m17x Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — August, 2008

Beating all the gaming performance scores to a pulp is the Alienware Area-51 m17x. Designed to slice through the most demanding games without a hitch, the m17x is configured for top-notch gaming performance. Under the lid, a full and comfortable keyboard greets you, along with the touch-responsive keys for different functions such as Bluetooth and Alienware’s AlienFX Command Center. The m17x is easy to personalize, thanks to the different tweaks available, such as setting up a color scheme for the backlighting. The 17-inch, high-definition 1920 x 1200 screen displays very vivid colors and is crystal clear. It’s powered by a 2.8-GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 processor and 4GB of RAM. The brand-new 9800M GT graphics pushed benchmark scores to new heights, producing an impressive 45,403 3DMark03 score. However, while it does return sky-high scores, the reviewer noted that some of the most demanding games still cannot run at the highest settings. Also, while the 9800M GT card supports PhysX technology, Nvidia has not turned on this support in the mobile version of its graphics cards yet. Battery lasted 1 hour and 6 minutes just browsing the Web. This translates to shorter life when playing. For those with cash to burn, the supreme power and sleek design of the Alienware Area-51 m17x will certainly turn heads.
Pros:
-Top-notch gaming performance
-Large HD display
-1 TB of storage
-SLI discrete graphics
-Customizable backlighting
Cons:
-PhysX not enabled
-Very short battery life
