Acer decided to ride the popularity of low-cost laptops by resurrecting its eMachines laptop line with the eMD620-5777. At $400, you won’t expect to see award winning designs. It measures 13.0 x 9.8 x 1.2-1.6 inches and weighs 5.3 pounds. It comes with a black matte lid, ribbed plastic above the keyboard, and a silver frame around the touchpad. The 14.1-inch glossy, bright display produced sharp images and legible text. Horizontal viewing angles are good, though the reviewer noted that tilting the screen produced a strange glare. It carries a full-size keyboard that is slightly curved. The curve won’t affect your typing and the reviewer stated that it is very comfortable. The touchpad is sized just right though the mouse buttons gave forth loud clicks. Given the eMD620-5777’s price point, it was the worst performer among thin-and-lights. Benchmark scores were below the category average, though adding an additional 1GB of RAM improved multitasking in Vista. Wi-Fi throughput was quite strong, pushing data at rates of 21.3 Mbps at 15 feet and 19.2 Mbps at 50 feet. On the other hand, battery endurance is quite disappointing, managing only 2 hours and 12 minutes. If you find netbooks too small, the extremely cheap eMD620-5777 is a capable machine for basic Web browsing and word processing.
Pros:
-cheap
-comfortable keyboard
-strong wireless

Cons:
-mediocre performance
-long boot time
-only 2 USB ports
-poor battery life
