A huge 18.4-inch display, True 5.1 Dolby sound, a dedicated CineDash control panel, and the gorgeous design made the Acer Aspire 8920G a big winner. Its follow-up, the Acer Aspire 8930G, retains the winning formula and adds a few goodies of its own. The 8930G features Acer’s Gemstone Blue design. It has a bluish black lid and the holographic-like paint looks sharp. Underneath the lid is a black keyboard above a silver, textured palm rest. It carries a bevy of ports, including a HDMI, eSATA and a 54mm ExpressCard. The basic system comes with an 8x DVD drive, while Blu-ray is only available on the higher end model. The glossy 18.4-inch (1920 x 1080-pixel) display is bright, colorful and provided sharp details on HD movies. The system has True 5.1 Dolby surround, which utilizes six speakers to deliver powerful audio. Benchmark score is nearly 600 points above the typical desktop replacement. Despite the below average score garnered by the 8930G in the graphics department, 3D hungry games ran at blistering speed, thanks to the Nvidia GeForce 9700M GT graphics. Battery life lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes on a charge - 6 minutes above the category average. The strong processor, better graphics muscle and striking design make the Acer Aspire 8930G an excellent desktop replacement.
Pros:
-1080p LCD panel
-true 5.1 Dolby surround
-fast hard drive
-speedy performance
Cons:
-small touchpad
-Blu-ray configuration costs more
-no FireWire
