Acer Aspire 8920G Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — May, 2008

Traditional notebooks will pale when put up against Acer’s new Gemstone Blue line, especially against the top-of-the-line configuration of the Aspire 8920G. The first notebook to ever break the 5.1 Dolby sound barrier and the 18.4-inch screen that offers true 1080p widescreen resolution puts it way ahead of the competition. Housed in a very stylish casing that features the Acer’s Gemstone Blue holographic-like paint, it also features a new kind of control panel that resembles extraterrestrial markings. The reviewer noted that it may look intimidating, though it’s actually intuitive. The 18.4-inch 1080p high-def screen, coupled with the optional DVD burner/Blu-ray player combo drive produced stunning videos with deep colors. By integrating a total of 6 speakers, Acer claims to have produced true Dolby 5.1 surround experience. The reviewer noted that the speakers did produce more sound separation. Benchmark scores for performance are solid, though game benchmarks showed that the rig isn’t made for gaming. Due to the amount of power needed to run this notebook, battery life is short. Wi-Fi performance is a bit below its class, though still acceptable. If it’s a multimedia desktop replacement you are looking for, the Aspire 8920G has all the elements you’ll ever need.
Pros:
-1080p widescreen resolution
-True 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound
-Unique control panel
-Full size keyboard
Cons:
-Small trackpad
-No FireWire port
