ASUS R700t Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — June, 2008

ASUS must have its priorities mixed when it came up with the R700t. This GPS device comes in a silver and black color scheme that the reviewer found to be more industrial looking. While the main unit has a thin profile, the window mount is quite huge. The navigational map with drawn 3D buildings is easy to follow and the reviewer stated that they were confident on the directions and routes the R700t provided. It has 2 modes: Fly Over mode to take you quickly to your route and the Simulate mode. The included TMC traffic service could warn you of congestions and create a detour automatically. On the other hand, the R700t also has its share of downsides. Entering into navigation mode took 30 seconds. While ASUS promised lifetime TMC traffic, the reviewer noted that it frequently gets stuck while scanning the FM stations. Users are sometimes forced to use the manual power button that resets the time and date info. The POI database only had 1.3 million entries. Also, the R700t does not pronounce street names. While it had some unique and great features, the more basic ones should be dealt with before the R700t can be recommended.
Pros:
-Striking 3D views of buildings
-Free lifetime TMC traffic
-With Bluetooth
-Two preview modes
Cons:
-30 seconds to enter navigation mode
-Traffic software freezes
-Doesn’t shut down properly sometimes
-POI database small
