ASUS decides to enter a new contender into the desktop replacement arena with the ASUS M70SA-C1. It features an eye-catching, black pinstriped lid and a dazzling 17-inch display which provides true 1080p videos. The reviewer noted that Blu-ray movies provided fine detail, rich blacks, and vibrant colors of the on-screen images. The keyboard, despite having a full numpad, remains spacious and has firm and responsive keys. The Altec Lansing speakers above the keyboard, another in the front bezel and a subwoofer at the bottom of the unit provided superb audio with solid bass. Included in the system is an antenna to pick up over-the-air HD channels using the built-in TV tuner. For storage, the M70SA-C1 carries a generous total of 1 TB from 2 500GB drives. Performance scores were above average, though the reviewer noted the failure of the 32-bit Vista to detect the whole 4GB of RAM. While it can play 3D games, albeit at low settings, the M70SA-C1’s graphic scores won’t impress hard-core gamers. Nonetheless, the combination of a gorgeous display, the Blu-ray drive and the colossal 1TB storage makes the ASUS M70SA-C1 one of the best there is.
