ASUS G50V Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — September, 2008

ASUS decided to give the G1 a younger brother in the form of the G50V. One look at its orange and black design and you’ll know you’re staring at a gaming notebook. Keyboard keys were a bit stiff and required more force than usual. The touchpad offered excellent feedback and buttons have a brushed metal finish. The G50V’s 15.4-inch, 1680 x 1050 high-definition display provided crisp and bright images. There is also a 3.1-inch OLED placed just above the keyboard showing the systems resources. It comes with the standard ports including an eSATA port and a single HDMI port. Powering the audio are two Altec Lansing speakers that produced crisp sound. It features ExpressGate which is an instant-on environment powered by Linux. However, the reviewer noted that the use of the ExpressGate was limited in use so gamers would want to access the OS instead. Performance scores were above average and the mid-range Nvidia GeForce 9700M GT discrete graphics did not disappoint. Battery life isn’t stellar, draining an hour and five minutes faster than average. If you want the wow factor during LAN parties, you might want to check out the ASUS G50V.
Pros:
-stylish
-additional 3.1-inch OLED
-good gaming performance
-comfortable keyboard
Cons:
-costs more than similar systems
-boots slow
