ASUS EEE PC 1000 Linux Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — July, 2008

While the market is slowly getting saturated with the many different mini-notebook models being released, the Eee PC 1000 is fast becoming the current favorite. With its glossy black Fine Ebony lid and improved silver hinge and black-on-silver combination gives the 1000h the high-fashion look. The 1000 has a 10-inch screen and a combined weight of 3.4 pounds together with its slim power brick. It includes Dolby Sound Room stereo speakers that deliver strong and solid sound despite its location. The keyboard is a major improvement from its predecessors, though some keys are awkwardly positioned. The 1000 also features a Super Hybrid Engine switcher that lets the user cycle through 4 different power settings. For storage, the 1000 uses a 40GB SSD that provides speedy boot times and protection as well. The 1.6-GHz Intel Atom processor and 1GB of RAM provided solid performance. And just like other Atom-powered mini-notebooks, the 1000 provides lengthy battery life, with the 6-cell battery lasting for a very good 5 hours and 12 minutes with Wi-Fi on. A good screen size, excellent battery life and a spacious keyboard makes this an excellent choice for a mini-notebook - if you are willing to pay the $699 premium.
Pros:
-Large 10-inch screen
-Spacious keyboard
-Excellent battery endurance
Cons:
-Awkwardly-placed keys
-Quite expensive
